WHY WE NEED SUSTAINABLE FORESTS

Sustainable forests are carefully managed so that as trees are felled they are replaced with seedlings that eventually grow into mature trees. This is a carefully and skilfully managed system. The forest is a working environment, producing wood products such as wood pulp for the paper / card industry and wood based materials for furniture manufacture and the construction industry. Great care is taken to ensure the safety of wildlife and to preserve the natural environment. Sustainable forests are the result of a commonsense policy to replace trees that are felled so that forests continue to exist providing natural materials for us all. Read more here.

Forests provide habitat for wildlife, protection for clean water and air, and recreation for people. Since trees are a renewable resource, when managed sustainably they also can be used to address important human needs without ever exhausting the supply. In a world with population growing at a rate of approximately 70 million people a year, we believe trees can and should be managed well to meet basic needs in our society: shelter, sanitation, packaging and communication.

Sustainable forest management aims to use forests for the benefit of the whole community without adversly affecting their natural attributes and future productivity. It also means that trees continue the cycle of removing carbon dioxide from the earth's atmosphere, locking it up within wood products. This cycle is continued through new plantings and reforestation activities. In practice, this means achieving a balance between the four main pillars of sustainability, environmental, economic and social values. R&B Group is a timber business that harvests, processes and pressure treats wooden poles for the domestic and international markets
