GREEN ARCHITECTURE: BUILDING A BETTER TOMORROW WITH WOOD

We are at the cusp of a revolution. As a global community we now have the opportunity to meet worldwide housing demands without increasing carbon emissions. How is this possible one might ask, the answer is simple: wood.

In the first Green Architecture post we looked at the beauty of Treehotel LINK. In this volume we take a look at a sustainable way to meet the housing requirements for the 3 billion people living on earth.

Enter Michael Green, who dreams of skyscrapers built from wood. In the TED talk below Mr Green gives a compelling argument in favour wooden skyscrapers whilst providing a means to cut down the overall CO2 output as a result.

Though, one of the biggest issues with such a grand idea is deforestation LINK, which contributes to 18% to green house gas emissions. The solution is to not cut down the wrong trees but encouraging local communities to benefit financially from faster but sustainable growth cycles and create sustainable forestry models.
